Title: Can vegetation types work as an indicator of soil organic carbon? An insight from native vegetations in Nepal
Journal : Ecological Indicators
Comment : A statistical analysis indicates significant differences in SOC amounts across the five vegetation types. On average, in each vegetation type, dense canopy forest (≥70% canopy cover) has higher amounts of SOC than that of open canopy forest (<70% canopy cover) and high altitude dense canopy Rhododendron-Quercus forest has the highest amount of SOC, followed by low altitude dense canopy mixed broadleaf forest. Soils under the mixed species (i.e., mixed broadleaf, Shcima-Castanopsis, Rhododendron-Quercus) forests have higher amount of SOC than that of single species dominated (i.e., pine and S. robusta) forests, indicating that a mixed species forest could be an indicator of higher SOC.
