Author : Ailian Chena, X. Angela Yao, Ranhao Sun, Liding Chen Year : 2014 Title : Effect of urban green patterns on surface urban cool islands and its seasonal variations Journal : Urban Forestry & Urban Greening Comment : The urban cool islands ( UCI) was represented by the minimum LST of each urban green patch. Results showed spatial patterns of urban green patches had significant effects on their UCIs in four seasons. In detail, the size, edge and connectivity of urban green spaces all affected the UCIs negatively, and the influence was stronger in warm seasons. Shape of urban green space also had effects on UCIs, but the effects were stronger in cool seasons. Great differences were found between predictive values of metrics for different green types. Shape metrics were more important for indicating UCIs of River, Trees and Crops than were patch size...
Author : M. Rial, A. Martínez Cortizas, L. Rodríguez-Lado Year : 2017 Title : Understanding the spatial distribution of factors controlling topsoil organic carbon content in European soils Journal : Science of the Total Environment Comment : They present a modelling procedure for mapping and monitoring SOC contents that uses Visible-Near Infrared (VNIR) spectroscopic measurements and a series of environmental covariates to ascertain the key environmental processes that have a major contribution into SOC sequestration processes. Their results show that it follows a geographically non-stationary process in which the influencing environmental factors have different weights depending on the spatial location. This implies that SOC stock modelling should not rely on a single model but on a combination of different statistical models depending on the environment...
